Four Saints Earn RRAC Player of the Week Honors
Waco, Texas- The Our Lady of the Lake Athletics programs had a big week in Athletics which led to four Saints claiming Red River Conference Player of the Week honors.
RRAC Pitcher of the Week – Omar Rodriguez – Our Lady of the Lake
Junior pitcher Omar Rodriguez pitched a seven-inning complete game against TAMUT. Rodriguez shut out the Eagles 10-0, allowing just two hits, while walking one and striking out eight. Rodriguez has a 7-0 record this season and has contributed to the Saints' 11-game winning streak.
Rodriguez is second on his team with 39 innings pitched and 30 strikeouts. He averages 6.92 strikeouts/game. Rodriguez has a 2.31 ERA and 1.13 WHIP.
OLLU is 20-8 overall and 10-2 in the RRAC. The Saints currently have an NAIA-best 11-game winning streak and an NAIA-best four shutouts.
RRAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week – Marie Peters – (16-T) Our Lady of the Lake
OLLU senior Marie Peters led the Saints to a 5-2 win over Texas A&M-Texarkana. Peters and her doubles partner, Ely Laure, defeated TAMUT's Emmanouela Besi and Andrea Castillo 6-1. Peters won her singles match against Kristin Major 6-2, 6-2. The Saints defeated Ottawa (Ariz.) 4-0. Peters and Laure won their doubles match against Ottawa's Nikola Rusinova and Yasmine Hawkins 6-0. Peters won her singles match against Sienna Johnson 6-1, 6-0. The Saints completed their third win of the week with a 4-1 victory over Texas Wesleyan. Peters and Laure defeated Shelby Standokes and Micaelli Magday 6-2. Peters won her singles match against Kayaq Brunzlow 7-5, 6-0.
Peters is a native of Tongeren, Belgium.
OLLU is ranked No. 16 (tied with Georgia Gwinnett). The Saints are 7-3 overall this season.
RRAC Player of the Week – Boston Tijerina – (9) Our Lady of the Lake
Freshman utility player Boston Tijerina led the Saints to a four-game series win against (RV 3) Texas A&M-Victoria last week. The Saints allowed just seven runs, while scoring 19. In the opening game, Tijerina went 3-for-4, adding a home run and two other runs, for the 8-5 win. In the 14-1 victory, she hit 2-for-4, adding two runs and two RBIs. On the field, Tijerina put out 16-of-18 with two assists.
Tijerina leads her team with 68 at-bats, 28 hits (tie), and 27 RBIs. She has put out 82-of-86. In the RRAC, she is first in RBIs, second with four home runs and 48 total bases, fourth in hits, and sixth with 82 putouts.
The Saints are 20-3 overall, winning their last five games. They are 9-0 in conference for first place. OLLU is ranked ninth in the most recent NAIA Softball Coaches Top 25 Poll.
RRAC Women's Golfer of the Week - Kendall Ward - Our Lady of the Lake
The Junior from Spring, Texas led the Saints to a fifth overall finish at the Warrior Invite at Legacy Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ward finished 9th overall in a competitive field of 54 golfers. The Saint finished the first round with a stroke of 79, the second round 80 and the final round 78. This is the second time Ward has been recognized as Golfer of the Week.
