Saints Split Day One Against John Melvin University

San Antonio, Texas- The Friday contests between Our Lady of the Lake University and John Melvin University featured two contrasting endings, as each team secured a win in a competitive doubleheader split.

In Game one, Our Lady of the Lake recorded nine hits in the opener but struggled to deliver in key moments, leaving 11 runners on base. Jacob Cueva paced the Saints with a 3-for-4 showing and a double, while Jack Kalisky also recorded a double. The Saints lone run came on a sacrifice fly by Diego Zuniga, but they were unable to string together sustained offense.

On the mound, Lejeune earned the win for John Melvin, working 6.2 innings and allowing one earned run. Donovan Gamez took the loss for the Saints, with control issues contributing to extended innings, though only two of the six runs charged to him were earned. Ethan Garza and Manuel Flores provided relief, with Flores finishing the game scoreless.

Game two presented a completely different tone, as the Saints responded with a disciplined and opportunistic 3–1 victory. In a contest defined by pitching and patience, Our Lady of the Lake scored three runs on just two hits, drawing nine walks and capitalizing on free passes and situational execution.

Mason Ruiz delivered a key RBI hit, while Christian Martinez and Aiden Gonzalez each drove in a run. The Saints executed small-ball tactics effectively, with Joshua Milton and Alex Rodriguez laying down sacrifice bunts to move runners into scoring position. Aggressive baserunning, including a stolen base by CaliEvan Billela-Barstow, added further pressure.

John Melvin was limited to just two hits in the second game and struck out seven times. Although they drew four walks, they were unable to generate timely offense. Wygant accounted for the lone run after entering as a pinch runner.
Noah Ferraro delivered a standout performance for the Saints, tossing six innings while allowing just two hits and one unearned run. He worked around four walks and kept John Melvin off balance throughout his 100-pitch outing. Christian Perez closed the door in dominant fashion, striking out all three batters he faced to secure his third save of the season.

Ford was charged with the loss in game two, surrendering two runs while issuing six walks and hitting two batters in 3.1 innings of work. Lejeune provided relief but could not reverse the early deficit.
