Bio
Matt Piker is a character-driven leader and man of faith whose life and career are centered around a clear and powerful purpose: to use the game of baseball as a vehicle to influence, mentor, and develop young men. With over a decade of collegiate coaching experience, he has built a reputation for excellence both on and off the field, consistently shaping competitive, disciplined teams and equipping student-athletes for success in life beyond the game.
Currently serving as the Head Baseball Coach at Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) in San Antonio, Texas, he assumed the role in 2022 and has since guided the program to two 30-win seasons (2023, 2025), sustained a team GPA above 3.0, and raised an average of $50,000 annually through fundraising efforts. Under his leadership, the Saints have produced numerous conference standouts, including 5 First Team All-RRAC selections, 5 Second Team honorees, 3 RRAC Gold Glove Award winners, and the 2023 RRAC Freshman of the Year. In 2024, he and his staff were honored as the SAABCA Coaching Staff of the Year.
Before taking the helm at OLLU, he served as the program’s Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, where he oversaw pitching development and was instrumental in recruiting student-athletes who reflected the university’s mission and values.
His coaching journey includes impactful stints at Mayville State University in North Dakota, where he helped guide the team to NSAA Conference Championships in 2018 and 2021, as well as previous roles at Arkansas Tech University and the University of the Ozarks. While at Mayville State he produced the 2018 NSAA Pitcher of the Year, 4 First Team All NSAA selections, 3 Second Team All NSAA honorees, and 2 NAIA All-Americans. Across these programs, he has developed and executed strategic training routines, managed recruiting across multiple regions and countries, and provided consistent leadership in player growth and academic success.
Beyond coaching, Piker has also held roles in student services and administration, including work as an Enrollment Specialist and Academic Advisor, helping students navigate the challenges of college life and stay on track toward graduation. These experiences have deepened his commitment to holistic development and strengthened his ability to mentor young men as both athletes and individuals.
A proud alumnus of the University of the Ozarks (B.S.) and Arkansas Tech University (M.S.), he blends his academic background with a grounded, values-based approach to leadership. Throughout his career, Coach Piker has remained unwavering in his belief that coaching is about more than winning games—it’s about changing lives. Every practice, every season, and every opportunity to lead is driven by his calling to build men of integrity, faith, and purpose.
