Saints Dance Finishes in Sixth Place at NDA Nationals
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (April 12, 2023) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) competitive dance squad took sixth place out of 11 teams at the National Dance Assocation (NDA) College National Championship from April 6-8.
Head Coach Crystal Brock commented, "The leadership on our team is evident in each athlete. Their dedication and loyalty to one another is the key to all of their success and the legacy they are leaving behind. Each dancer understands their role in our routine and shows up ready to workday in and day out. Even on their off time, they are working and putting in the hours to be ready for the actual practice. As a coach you can't ask for anything more from your athletes. Their humility this season has been admirable. They put in the same amount of work in practice after a big win as they would after a disappointing placement. They understand the subjectivity of our sport and work to improve the scoresheet of each performance. OLLU should be very proud of captains Madicela Perez, Madison Smith, Alynna Gutierrez and our two rookies Maya Jay and Yasmine Escobar for having such a successful contest season in a very competitive division at every competition they attend. In addition, these talented athletes earned the Acedemic Achievement Award at the American College Championships this year. This in itself is something to celebrate as a team and university."
The Saints started the competition with the prelim performance. They had a performance score of 82.32, which ranked sixth out of 11 teams. The top seven teams moved on to the NAIA Team Performance. OLLU totaled 82.85 in the NAIA Team Performance for another sixth place finish. Oklahoma City University was first at 90.4, followed by Aquinas College at 88.1, Texas Wesleyan University at 85.15, Hope International University at 84.15 and Roosevelt University at 83.45. University of Pikeville finished below the Saints in seventh place at 82.47.
