Alumni and Saints Square Off In Scrimmage on Saturday
SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 24, 2024)—The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball program held the Annual Alumni Game on Saturday in the Mabee Gymnasium. The game, played in a warm and friendly environment, saw the Saints emerge victorious with a score of 86-81 against the alumni team.
The alumni team, a formidable lineup of OLLU basketball history, included AJ Govan (2010-2013), De'Quentin Greer (2013-2015), Kyonte Holder (2022-2024), Sherman Howard (2009-2011), Oscar Maldonado (2021-2023), Lo'Ron Smith (2010-2013), Marcus Thompson (2010-2014), Aleksandar Tomic (2009-2011), Ethan White (2018-2019/2020-2021) and Marlon Williams (2019-2022).
Smith is a member of the Saints 1,000 Point Club, a prestigious group of players who have scored over 1,000 points in their college basketball career. Saints Head Coach Marcus Thompson was inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame in 2022. He was the Red River Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2014 and still holds the NAIA record for most steals with 15. Howard and Tomic were members of the inaugural team in 2009.
Greer and White led the alumni team with 17 points each. Maldonado scored 16, while Williams added 13 points.
The Saints were led by Lonzo Rand and Trey Law, both of whom scored 14 points. Xavier Purnell and Arthur Celestin added 10, while Kenyon Elliott and Rob Gil scored eight.

The men's basketball team is gearing up for an exciting 2024-2025 season. They will open in Plainview, Texas, on Oct. 25, against Wayland Baptist University. The anticipation is high for the Saints' first home match on Oct. 29, against Southern University at New Orleans.
