Cold Shooting, Turnovers Hinder Saints in Road Loss
Costa Mesa, California- The Our Lady of the Lake University men's basketball team battled hard but ultimately fell short against Westcliff University (CA), 61–70, in a frustrating road loss that didn't reflect the Saints effort on the boards and defensive intensity.
Despite dominating the glass with a commanding 46–33 rebounding advantage, the Saints couldn't overcome cold shooting and turnovers that derailed several promising stretches. OLLU shot just 38 percent from the field and 20 percent from beyond the arc, while 30 turnovers proved costly in a game that featured six ties and seven lead changes.
Mike Aiken led the Saints with 13 points, showing consistency and composure through the team's offensive struggles. Kenyon Elliot followed closely with 12 points, while Devontae Da Costa added 10 in a balanced scoring effort. Wahkil Lopez was relentless inside, pulling down a team-high 11 rebounds, while Barack Holland led the team with two assists, often sparking the offense with his court vision.
The Saints showed resilience throughout the matchup, answering every Westcliff run and staying within reach until the final minutes. The defensive hustle and rebounding were bright spots, proving that this OLLU team has the heart and toughness to compete even when the shots aren't falling.
OLLU will look to bounce back at home on November 8th when they host Westbury Christian University at 3:00 PM CDT.
