TEXARKANA, TEXAS (Sept. 21, 2024) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer squad dropped a Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) game at Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) 2-1 on Saturday. The Saints are now 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the RRAC. The Eagles jump to 3-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.
Head Coach Shane Hurley said, "We missed way too many quality opportunities. We should have finished with at least one point out of this game."
The Eagles offense scored in the second minute to take an early advantage. Diego Picano was assisted by Golden Eguaikhide and Ali Akram in the tally. The Saints responded with shots on goal by Alessandro Sierra and Jared Garibay, both of which were saved. They continued to put shots on goal, but the Eagles put one past the goalie again in the 33rd minute. Diego Picano scored an unassisted goal to increase Texarkana's lead to 2-0. Andres Rocha sent a shot high over the goalie but capitalized four minutes later at the 37th mark. His goal was assisted by Nicolas Murgas and the Saints trailed 2-1 heading into halftime.
No goals were scored in the second half but both teams had plenty of chances. There were five yellow cards shown in the frame. OLLU had three corner kicks in the first seven minutes. The Saints had two shots following the corner kicks until the 83rd minute. The Eagles tallied two corner kicks and two shots in the final six minutes. Dominic Pena saved a shot on goal with 16 seconds remaining, but the Eagles held on to win 2-1.
Pena finished with four saves. Rocha had two shots on goal. The Saints took three corner kicks compared to Texarkana's five. There were 25 total fouls with the Saints committing 14.
