OLLU Men’s Soccer Falls to SCU, Looks Ahead to Saturday Showdown
Terrell, Texas- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) Saints men's soccer team faced a tough evening falling 5-0 to Southwestern Christian University (SCU) in a game where the scoreboard didn't quite reflect the full story of the Saints opportunities.
Despite the final scoreline, the Saints came out with intensity and had their moments throughout the match. OLLU generated five shots, two of which were on goal, and showed offensive initiative with five corner kicks—outpacing SCU in that category, which only managed three. The Saints also created pressure at key moments, pushing into the attacking third with urgency and intent, particularly in the early stages and set-piece situations.
In goal, Zak Averns got the start and played 14 minutes, making two saves on five shots faced, before being substituted. Carson Burkhalter took over for the remainder of the match, recording five saves on eight shots. Though both goalkeepers faced relentless pressure from SCU's attack, they displayed resilience in the face of an offensive surge.
SCU capitalized on its chances with two goals in the first half and three more in the second, powered by a high-volume shooting performance—20 total shots, 13 on frame.
The loss moves OLLU to 1-3-2 on the season. The Saints will regroup and prepare for their next opportunity to rebound on Saturday against Nelson (Texas) on the road, with kickoff set for 7:30 PM CDT.
