Saints Outshoot Eagles, Fall 3-1 At Home

San Antonio, Texas- The Our Lady of the Lake University Saints men's soccer team left it all on the field in a tough 3-1 home loss to Texas A&M Texarkana, a match that tested their resolve and showcased their relentless attacking spirit.

The Eagles struck first, finding the net just 4:44 into the match and putting the Saints on the back foot early. But OLLU responded with urgency, launching wave after wave of attacks. The Saints dominated possession for long stretches and peppered the TAMUT goal with 24 total shots, ten more than their opponents. But the Eagles' goalkeeper stood tall, recording an impressive 13 saves and denying OLLU on several close-range chances.

As the second half began, the Saints pushed higher up the field, looking to break through. But at 57:36, TAMUT extended their lead to 2-0. The Saints wasted no time in answering. Just seconds later, at 58:27, Nicolas Murgas slotted home a much-needed goal for OLLU, injecting life and energy back into the match and cutting the deficit to 2-1. The momentum shift was immediate, and the Saints surged forward, pressing hard for an equalizer.

With OLLU attacking in numbers, the Eagles managed to find a gap in the Saints' back line and added a third goal at 69:34, putting the game slightly out of reach despite the Saints continued fight. Still, OLLU refused to back down, continuing to test the Eagles keeper and forcing a series of desperate saves and clearances.

OLLU earned nine corner kicks, triple the amount TAMUT managed, and showed composure in building their offense, but the final touch often eluded them. Zak Averns, the Saints goalkeeper, made five saves and stayed composed under pressure, but the Eagles capitalized on the few clear chances they created.

Despite the 3-1 final scoreline, the match was far from a one-sided affair. The Saints outshot and outplayed the Eagles for large portions of the game, and their offensive volume showed a team that is still very much in control of its identity. The Saints will play again this Saturday against Jarvis Christian at 3:30 PM at home.
