Saints Sweep Past Texas College for Commanding 5–0 Victory

San Antonio, Texas- The Our Lady of the Lake University men's soccer team continued their strong form with a commanding 5–0 victory over the Texas College Steers on a windy Wednesday afternoon. Despite the challenging wind conditions, the Saints showcased their skill, patience, and composure, dominating both sides of the ball from start to finish.

OLLU's attack was relentless throughout the match, outshooting Texas College 30–9 and controlling possession for the majority of the 90 minutes. The Saints also earned nine corner kicks compared to the Steers two, a testament to their consistent pressure in the attacking third.

Goalkeeper Zak Averns stood firm between the posts, playing the full match and keeping a clean sheet. Averns faced only two shots on goal all afternoon and turned both away with ease, maintaining the Saints defense and leadership at the back.

The breakthrough came in the 31st minute when Alessandro Sierra slotted home the opening goal, giving OLLU the momentum they needed. Just before halftime, the Saints doubled their advantage as Jared Garibay finished a well-worked play assisted by Cristian Mireles and Nicolas Murgas at 39:24, sending OLLU into the break with a 2–0 lead.

The Saints kept their foot on the gas in the second half. Nicolas Murgas found the net in the 79th minute after a pinpoint assist from Karson Webb, extending the lead to 3–0. As the wind picked up, OLLU's confidence only grew, Harry Acklam produced the moment of the match with a stunning long-range goal from past midfield in the 87th minute that left the crowd in awe. Just two minutes later, Sierra capped off the day with his second goal, sealing the 5–0 win in emphatic fashion.

With the victory, the Saints look ahead to one of the most important matches of the season. OLLU will take on crosstown rival Texas A&M–San Antonio on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. CDT for Senior Day, a matchup sure to carry plenty of intensity and emotion. Riding the momentum of a dominant win and a clean sheet, the Saints appear ready to rise to the occasion.
