Three From Men's Track and Field Garner NAIA Scholar-Athlete Awards
KANSAS CITY, MO. (May 21, 2024) - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the 2024 Daktronics NAIA Men's Track & Field Scholar-Athletes. Three athletes from the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) track and field program were named to the team.
The 2024 list features 873 student-athletes that achieved at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at their institution. To be nominated, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at said institution.
Junior Jalen Bell, a Mass Communications major, has been part of the team since 2022. He took part in seven events this year. Bell placed second in the 100m at the UTSA Invitational, which hit the National A Standard. He recently won the 200m at the Trinity Last Chance Meet with a mark of 21.39. He earned a GPA of 3.56.
Junior Justin Gould, a Business Management major, has been part of the team since 2021. He participated at five events this season. Highlights of his season included a 51.49 in the 400m at the Texas State Meet. He marked a GPA of 3.78.
Senior Kruz Malesich, an Accounting major, has been part of the team since 2022. He competed at the Trinity Invitational in March and took fifth place in the 10, with a time of 32:31.27. He earned a GPA of 4.00.
