WACO, TEXAS (April 3, 2023) – Cassandra Valdez of Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) was selected as the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for March 27-April 2. This is Valdez's fourth award of the season. This is the ninth set of weekly awards for the 2023 softball season.

Valdez won four games and struck out 31 batters in a 6-0 week for the Saints. The senior righty from Brownsville, Texas, recorded a four-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over the University of Houston-Victoria and tossed a two-hitter in a 6-0 victory over Jarvis Christian University. In 20 innings of work, Valdez allowed one earned run and nine hits while walking six. At the plate, Valdez slammed three homers and posted 10 RBIs. She now leads the nation with 17 wins on the season, and she is the RRAC leader in strikeouts with 167. OLLU remained unbeaten in conference play at 18-0, and the second-ranked Saints are 32-4 on the season.
