Four Selected to Red River All-Tournament Softball Team
SAN ANTONIO (May 7, 2024) - Four players from the No. 1-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team earned Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) All-Tournament honors.
The Saints defeated Xavier University of Louisana (XULA) in the opening round and beat Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) on the same day. They dropped to the losers bracket after LSU-Alexandria (LSUA) broke OLLU's 45-game winning streak on Sunday. The Saints were paired with TAMUT again and won 10-2 to advance to the title game. OLLU needed to beat LSUA twice to claim the championship, but the Generals downed the Saints again to win the title.
Kayla Dreese batted 4-for-13 with two RBIs during the tournament, including one home run. She also had 10 total bases and a perfect fielding percentage.
Madison Garza had a hit in all five games. She batted over .500 against XULA and Texarkana. Garza helped defeat Texarkana in the elimination game with a home run and had two doubles throughout the tournament.
Ava Hernandez hit three home runs and totaled five RBIs. Hernandez stole one base and scored four runs.
Cassandra Valdez allowed only one earned run against Texarkana. She struck out six batters and gave up four hits. She totaled three RBIs at the plate with one home run.
The Saints will prepare for the NAIA Regional Opening Round from May 13-16.
