Saints Move Past Indiana Wesleyan
Columbus, Georgia- Our Lady of the Lake continued its remarkable postseason run with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Indiana Wesleyan in 10 innings, advancing to the final three teams remaining in the NAIA Softball World Series.
In a matchup defined by pitching, defense, and timely execution, the Saints showed composure throughout one of the most competitive games of the tournament. OLLU improved by relying on disciplined at-bats, strong relief pitching, and aggressive baserunning to outlast the Wildcats in extra innings.
Indiana Wesleyan struck first in the fourth inning when Brylee Bilger delivered an RBI double to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Despite the early deficit, the Saints remained steady behind starting pitcher Valeria Vielma, who limited Indiana Wesleyan to one run across six innings while recording four strikeouts.
OLLU responded in the sixth inning. After Arianna Alejandro reached base, pinch runner Ayanna Trejo provided a spark with aggressive baserunning that helped create a scoring opportunity. Marisa Rosales tied the game with a sacrifice fly, bringing Trejo home and shifting momentum toward the Saints.
The game remained tied through regulation as both pitching staffs continued to work out of difficult situations. Indiana Wesleyan starter Avery Toole threw all 9.0 innings for the Wildcats, allowing just two runs while striking out four. However, the Saints continued to apply pressure offensively throughout the night.
Annika Litterio proved instrumental in relief for OLLU. Entering after Vielma's six innings of work, Litterio held Indiana Wesleyan scoreless over the final four innings to earn her 30th victory of the season. She worked through multiple threats and helped preserve the tie until the Saints could capitalize offensively.
In the 10th inning, OLLU delivered the decisive moment. With pressure mounting in extra innings, the Saints executed once again on the bases before Lilly Rocha drove in the game-winning run, securing the 2-1 victory and sending OLLU into the next round of the World Series bracket.
The Saints finished with seven hits on the night, including key contributions from Alejandro, Rocha, Rosales, Brianna Ramirez, and Novalee Gloria. Defensively, OLLU made several important plays in high-pressure moments to contain an Indiana Wesleyan lineup that produced eight hits and drew seven walks.
With the win, Our Lady of the Lake advances into the final three teams remaining in the NAIA Softball World Series, continuing one of the most successful postseason runs in program history.
