OLLU Drops Decision to Xavier Following Tight First Half

New Orleans, LA- Our Lady of the Lake University fell to Xavier University of Louisiana, 71–59, in a competitive women's basketball matchup in which rebounding and second-chance opportunities proved decisive.

OLLU shot 47.1 percent from the field and was led offensively by Alexandra Westerdijk Martin, who scored a team-high 18 points on an efficient 9-of-11 shooting performance while adding six rebounds. Shayla Dede contributed 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists, and Anissa Cardona and Isabella Jaramillo each added seven points off the bench. Despite solid shooting overall, the Saints struggled to maintain possession, committing 24 turnovers that Xavier converted into key scoring opportunities.

Xavier countered with a balanced attack and a significant advantage on the glass, outrebounding OLLU 46–30, including 27 offensive rebounds. Alicia Blanton anchored the Gold Rush inside, finishing with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Shania Swan added 19 points and three assists. Tiarra Tillison facilitated the offense with eight assists and four steals, helping Xavier control the tempo for much of the contest.

The Saints remained within reach through portions of the game, using strong interior scoring and active defense to challenge Xavier's lead. Samantha Fields added five points, three assists, and three steals, while the OLLU bench provided 22 points. However, missed opportunities at the free-throw line and difficulty limiting second-chance points prevented the Saints from closing the gap late.

Xavier shot 39.5 percent from the field and held OLLU to 27.8 percent from three-point range, allowing the Gold Rush to pull away in the final minutes. OLLU will look to build on its offensive efficiency while addressing ball security and rebounding as it prepares for its next contest this Saturday against NAU at 3:00 PM CDT.
