OLLU Women's Tennis Wins First-Ever ITA Academic Awards

SAN ANTONIO (July 25, 2024) - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) is proud to announce the 2024 NAIA Women's ITA Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic Teams. The recognition includes Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) plus six team members. Academia is an integral aspect of the college tennis experience and adds to the unique student-athlete experience found on college campuses nationwide.

In tennis, student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2024, 227 NAIA women's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 33 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
  • Be listed on the institutional eligibility form

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale),
  • All student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and
  • All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year

This marks a significant milestone for OLLU, being the first year the university has been recognized with this prestigious academic program through the ITA.

The Saints finished the season with a remarkable 3.649 GPA—the best among the 18 athletic teams at OLLU. All eight team members demonstrated their commitment to both academics and athletics, with GPAs of 3.0 or above, two earning a perfect 4.0 GPA and four earning 3.5 GPAs or above.

Winning the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award are Lucia Popluharova – 4.0 GPA, Saskia Vogelzang – 4.0 GPA, Alexandra Mille – 3.73, Angela Pozos Perales – 3.66 and Millie Wileman – 3.55. These students have not only excelled on the court but also in the classroom, making OLLU proud of their achievements.
