Our Lady of the Lake Shows Promise in Strong Field
San Antonio, Texas- The Our Lady of the Lake University women's track and field team arrived at the University of Texas at San Antonio meet facing a diverse field of athletes across divisions, the Saints approached each event with a competitive drive.
The sprint group, composed largely of freshmen, set the tone. In the 100 meters, Alex Wells led the team with a time of 12.28, followed closely by Morgan Young in 12.33 and Sa'Nya Auguste in 12.44. Samantha Solis rounded out the group with a 13.38 finish. Though the wind readings were above legal limits for record purposes, the performances reflected steady progress and growing confidence among the young sprinters.
That development carried into the 200 meters. Wells again paced the Saints, crossing in 25.45, while Young posted a 26.73. Kymberli Cavazos and Solis added depth in separate sections, recording times of 28.18 and 29.22, respectively. The consistency across both short sprints demonstrated the team's ability to compete through multiple rounds and varying conditions.
In the 400 meters, Morghan Neely and Brianna Rodriguez represented the Saints with disciplined efforts. Neely clocked a 1:01.68, showing control through the opening stages and resilience down the stretch. Rodriguez followed in 1:04.84, contributing a solid performance in a competitive field.
The middle-distance group showcased the team's depth and experience. In the 800 meters, Liliana Hernandez led with a 2:24.79, narrowly ahead of Mia Curiel at 2:25.51. Madison Perez and Monica Sanchez followed closely, finishing in 2:26.35 and 2:27.35. The tight grouping of times highlighted a cohesive unit capable of pushing one another in race situations.
In the 1500 meters, Daylah Vega and Claudia Lopez took on the challenge of a longer tactical race. Vega finished in 5:39.17, with Lopez crossing in 5:48.11. Both athletes demonstrated patience and commitment, maintaining form throughout the race.
Cavazos returned in the 100-meter hurdles, recording a time of 17.47. Her effort added versatility to the team's overall performance, contributing points and experience in a technical event.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Morgan Young, Jadae Freeman, Sa'Nya Auguste, and Nataley Doka delivered one of the weekend's most cohesive performances. Their time of 48.16 secured a sixth-place finish, reflecting strong exchanges and effective teamwork under pressure.
In the field events, Jeslynn Flores cleared 1.65 meters in the high jump, successfully navigating early heights before narrowly missing at 1.70 meters. Her performance earned a ninth-place finish and demonstrated consistency in her approach.
The long jump highlighted one of the team's top marks of the meet. Lawren Tanner recorded a jump of 5.79 meters, meeting the NAIA B standard and finishing seventh overall. Jadae Freeman added a mark of 5.18 meters, contributing to the team's presence in the event.
