Saints Fall to Tornados, Look Ahead to Conference Clash
Austin, Texas- The Our Lady of the Lake University Saints fought with heart and hustle Wednesday night but ultimately came up short against the Concordia University Texas Tornados in a 3-0 match that did not truly tell the full tale of the tape.
Set one saw the Saints pushing the pace early, holding tight with the Tornados before narrowly dropping it 25-21. The second set was even tighter, with OLLU keeping the pressure on with smart swings and aggressive play, only to fall just short, 25-23. The third and final set mirrored the competitive tone of the night, with the Saints refusing to back down before the Tornados closed it out 25-22.
Though the result wasn't in their favor, the Saints delivered some spotlight performances. Chanisty Villarreal Bermea anchored the back row with 10 digs, setting the tone defensively and helping to keep OLLU in long rallies. Lauren Reynard continued her consistent presence as the team's primary setter, dishing out 26 assists and facilitating the offense with poise under pressure.
Mia Francis led the Saints offensively with nine kills, finding seams in Concordia's block and showing why she remains one of the team's most reliable scoring options. At the net, Anais Velasquez and Bailey Scott each recorded two blocks, leading the team in that category.
Despite the loss, the numbers tell a story of a team battling at every point. OLLU totaled 35 kills, showing offensive prowless throughout the night. However, 26 errors proved costly, leaving room for growth as the Saints continue their season push into conference action.
Now sitting at a pivotal point in the schedule, the Saints have a key opportunity to bounce back next week when they host Jarvis Christian in a home conference showdown. The match is set for 6:00 PM CDT on September 26 and they look to defend their home court and get back in the win column.
