Men's Soccer Begins Quest for RRAC Tournament Title Versus LSU-Shreveport
SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 5, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer squad takes on No. 1 seed LSU-Shreveport (LSUS) in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Postseason Tournament Quarterfinal on Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. The Saints are the No. 8 seed after qualifying for the tournament by beating Huston-Tillotson University on Nov. 2. The Pilots will host the game at The Swamp in Shreveport, La.
Tournament schedule
The quarterfinals begin on Thursday with two games. No. 7 seed Jarvis Christian University plays at No. 2 seed Xavier University of Louisiana at 1:30 p.m., followed by No. 6 seed Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) at No. 3 seed LSU-Alexandria at 2:30 p.m. The Saints play at LSUS on Friday at 2 p.m. The Saints lost to the Pilots 2-1 on Sept. 19 and are 6-7 against LSUS in the series history. The quarterfinals close with No. 5 seed Louisiana Christian University at No. 4 seed Texas A&M University-San Antonio at 2 p.m. as well.
The semifinals and championship game will be hosted by TAMUT at Eagle Field on Nov. 12 and Nov. 14. The semifinals are at 5 p.m. and 7:30 on Nov. 12, with the championship at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 14.
History
The Saints have won the tournament once in 2012 and were finalists in 2009. They were semifinalists in 2010, 2011, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
OLLU season stats
The Saints finished the regular season at 6-11-1 overall and 5-7-1 in the RRAC. In 18 games this season, the Saints have scored 30 goals, and added 14 assists on 220 shots, 128 on goal.
Thiago Fernandes leads the Saints with 10 goals, followed by Andres Rocha with nine. Rocha has 45 shots with 27 being on goal. Dominic Pena has tallied 109 saves with a .747 save percentage. Pena is 6-10-1 in the net with one shutout.
LSUS season stats
The Pilots finished first in the RRAC standings without losing a conference game. They went 11-0-2 against conference opponents and 12-2-4 overall. LSUS is ranked No. 23 in the NAIA. The Pilots have played in 18 games this season and have 47 goals, and added 36 assists on 235 shots, 127 on goal.
Jack Thomas leads the Pilots with 13 goals. Thomas also has the most shots on goal with 23. Joel Trueb has assisted on eight goals and Kyle Mcleish has 43 saves in net. Mcleish is 5-1-2 in net with five shutouts.
